Government Increases Embassy Security

September 30, 2013 – Over a year after the Benghazi attacks the federal government has finally decided to increase security at American embassies. The House has passed a measure to add additional marines at the gates of embassies, more expensive contracts for guarding overseas posts and additional funding for State Department operations in the next fiscal year.

While the White House requested $2.65 billion in funds, congress has added $15.6 billion to match those funds. “We need the Marines at the gate, we need to guard the gate, it needs to be reinforced,” said House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif. The funding measure passed 384-37. The measure comes a little over a year after the Benghazi debacle left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others dead from the lack of security.

On September 11, 2012 the Benghazi embassy was left destroyed after muslim terrorists attacked and killed American personnel. The Obama administration initially tried to call the attack a ‘protest-gone-awry’ but as pressures mounted the smoke screen dissipated. Immediately after the attack Susan Rice went on national television saying that the attack was the result of protests over a little known YouTube video. Later is where Hillary Clinton made her now infamous “what difference does it make” speech to congressional officials seeking answers to the Benghazi failures. The Benghazi cover-up is one of several scandals that has left the Obama administration scrambling for excuses and saw Hillary Clinton resign as Secretary of State.
