NORTH KOREA DETAINS CHRISTIAN FROM AUSTRALIA: JOHN SHORT

February 25, 2014 - Today Voice of the Martyrs sent email notifications of a Christian from Australia who had been arrested in North Korea. John Short was traveling in the country and it was discovered he had Christian literature that was translated into the language of North Koreans.

North Korea is one of several nations in the world that strictly prohibit the practice of the Christian faith; and handing out Christian literature in the country is seen as an act of undermining their government. Other nations have national bigotry against the Christian faith, including China and Leftists in the United States. Arab nations also imprison, torture and murder Christians in favor of islam, or the muslim religion.

Over the past decade the United States has had enormous trading agreements with China, yet politically claim China is a nation of concern for human rights. Most American jobs have been given to the Chinese in the past twelve to fifteen years, and much concern has been expressed over the hypocrisy of the United States government in trade-dealings with human rights violators.

Christians are very concerned over the silence of the U.S. government in issues of Christians being oppressed and persecuted around the world. The U.S. government has been all but silent over American citizen Saeed Abedini, who is being held in prison in Iran for talking with underground churches in the country.
